There's a reason we've been coming here for 20 years
Sitting in the sparkling turquoise Aegean Sea, Lesvos is a warm and sunny emerald gem of Greece. It is a whole continent in miniature: spectacular beaches, high mountains and wild forests on Greece's third largest island.
Due to the island's size and variety, there's something for everyone: beach holidays, activity holidays, gastronomic tours, nature attractions and spectacular geography.
Here at Real Lesvos we aim to gradually make the wonder and attractions of Lesvos more easily available to the UK traveller. In the map below you'll find an ever-increasing list of our favourite things to do and see on Lesvos!
Internationally famous as the birthplace of Sappho, one of the nine Lyric poets and the siren voice of Antiquity, Eressos is the place to be. The town forms an easily-navigable loose grid pattern as it gently slopes down to a free beach where young people, families and couples congregate to watch the sunset, swim and race to the rock island ahead. The beach has received the blue flag award from the European Council on the Environment as the cleanest and best cared for in Greece. Don’t forget to look out for the shipwreck of the Turkish warship ‘Moving Mountain’ that perished during the Greek War of Independence in 1821 too.
On balmy summer evenings, go ahead and join the international crowd down by the waves dancing into the early hours. Skala Eressos offers a wide range of summer accommodation for all tastes and budgets. Watch live music, poetry readings, karaoke, and open-air theater at The Sappho Garden of the Arts, a lesbian-owned, community-oriented art space where crowds gather for a drink even when the stage is empty.
Skala Eressos has an enviable selection of beachfront tavernas specialising in locally caught fish and seafood dishes and modern fusion cuisine: if you’re in the mood for a Thai curry, Mexican food, and piña coladas you’re in luck!. There are bars for a quiet drink or a celebratory cocktail and a lively square for a revitalising morning coffee.
Skala Eressos – with its lively atmosphere and laid-back summer sun – makes it perfect for a bright and breezy beach break!
