There's a reason we've been coming here for 20 years
Sitting in the sparkling turquoise Aegean Sea, Lesvos is a warm and sunny emerald gem of Greece. It is a whole continent in miniature: spectacular beaches, high mountains and wild forests on Greece's third largest island.
Due to the island's size and variety, there's something for everyone: beach holidays, activity holidays, gastronomic tours, nature attractions and spectacular geography.
Here at Real Lesvos we aim to gradually make the wonder and attractions of Lesvos more easily available to the UK traveller. In the map below you'll find an ever-increasing list of our favourite things to do and see on Lesvos!
When it comes to rose-gold sunsets and spectacular settings, Molyvos is unmatched, perched between the mountains of north Lesvos and the Aegean sea. We urge you to stop on the coastal road to Molyvos and take in the dramatic panorama. Visitors to Molyvos can enjoy beaches perfect for swimming and watersports. There are too many eclectic shops to choose from, all offering an array of traditional organic products – there is something for everyone. Relax at any number of local eateries catering to all tastes – from delicious street food to gourmet experiences. Don’t forget to try the traditional speciality of cured sardines and lakerda by the town harbour.
After exploring the harbour, climb up through winding streets – one was voted Europe’s Most Beautiful Street in 2014 – to the majestic Castle of Mythimna dating back to the Trojan war, rebuilt by the Byzantines and renovated by Genoans. After all, Molyvos is one of the best preserved traditional towns in Greece! As you take a stroll through the backstreets, marvel at the canopies of blooming wisteria forming natural arches and the vines pouring over the city walls. Look out for the ornate water fountains dating back to the Ottoman era that decorate the town.
Had enough of walking? Rent a bike and join the cycling enthusiasts taking on the challenge of the surrounding hills or simply enjoy traditional sweets and Greek coffee while watching the daily wonder of the sun dipping into the sea again. If you’re looking for an alcoholic drink, stop off at the wide range of bars…we love to join the locals for cocktails or a Mythos beer in the old village or down at the harbour!
The spirit of Molyvos is undeniably unique…it has become home to many poets, novelists and artists from far and wide who have been drawn to its inspiring landscape!
